TEST star Kurt Gidley was named Player of the Year at the Newcastle Knights presentation last night.

The announcement, at Wests Leagues Club, caps off a stellar season for the 26-year-old, who was named in the Kangaroos squad at the start of the week. He will play in the World Cup which kicks off in Townsville on October 25.

Gidley led the scoring for the Knights, which finished the season ninth on the NRL ladder with 12 wins and 12 losses.
